What a gritty little short. This is the kind of story I love, tortured hero, realistic battles, tortured hero, tight story, tortured hero. This is too short though. I want more of this world and more of this story. It's satisfying in a way but in another it's cruel to taunt us with such sweet world-building and then cut it short. We have the bare bones arc without the meat. The MM aspect is faint and adds to 'Morgan's' story. I love that he gets that but damn I wish we'd gotten more history. I wanted for this to have followed Morgan from the time he became the King's Dog to the end battle arc, that would have been awesome. But really...if wishes were fishes...What we do have here is bloody and edging in madness. I love the almost Gladiator-esque rise of Morgan from the prison to the battlefield. How war and being a warrior centers him and drags him back to sanity. It was a great read, I just wanted more of it.
